Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio! I have created this website in order to show my many successes over the course of my master's degree. I am currently completing my graduate degree in Education through Michigan State University. I graduated from MSU with a bachelor's degree in 2010. After I graduated, I completed my internship at an elementary school in Utica Community Schools. I spent the first semester in a fourth grade general education classroom and the second semester in a resource room. After graduation I was hired by Waterford School District as a 2nd grade teacher. I recently completed my third year as a second grade teacher.

Why teaching?
Throughout the interview process the most asked question was "Why did you become a teacher?" I put a lot of thought into this answer. I could say, "I love working with children" or "I want to make a positive difference in children's lives," both answers would be true, however, they do not capture how I really feel.
In the end, I came up with, "IT JUST MAKES SENSE."
As a child I always enjoyed going to school. I not only loved the social aspects of school, but the new experiences and learning opportunities school gave me. School was fun, which made learning fun. Choosing teaching as my career, I am still able to have fun learning!
I love being creative. I love hands-on projects, thinking of new ways of doing something, explaining ideas or building. I have always seen teaching as an opportunity to be creative. Whether you are developing lesson plans, making accommodations, setting up your classroom or arranging your schedule; teaching keeps my creative side challenged.
Teaching can be a challenge. I am very passionate about my job, which makes the challenges very motivating. There are always problems that need to be solved, time that needs to be managed and behaviors that need to be redirected. These are the aspects of teaching that keep me on my toes and keep me motivated.
I am a life-long learner. More than any other career I believe teaching is the perfect fit for someone who truly enjoys learning. Teaching is always changing and new techniques, technologies, curriculums and lessons are being researched, invented and discovered. I will never know it all, but within this career I will always have the opportunity to learn more.
It just makes sense.
