TE 501: Internship in Teaching Diverse Learners I
This course was directly linked to my student teaching experience. I student taught in Utica Community Schools in a fourth grade general education classroom and a special education resource room. This course was a state requirement, and it offered me the opportunity to reflect on my student teaching experience individually and in a group of other interns. We worked together to create and discuss lesson plans, behavior management techniques and strategies, along with various other teacher topics.

803A: Professional Role in Teaching Special Education II: Assessment of Mild Impairment
Dr. Gary Troia
This course focused solely on assessments. We were taught how to determine if a students is eligible along with corresponding instructional planning. In this course we studied a wide array of assessment methods available for identifying students with disabilities. We constructed and presented group projects each based on a specific formal assessment used in current schools. We learned how to evaluate the response of the students, which led to learning how to use the data to instruct. Some of the various assessments included norm-referenced tests, criterion-referenced assessment tasks, curriculum-based assessments and measurement, and dynamic assessment.

804A: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Special Education II: Mild Impairment
Dr. Troy Mariage
This course focused on reading and writing related interventions. We discussed techniques on howe to observe and measure a students level of performance. We learned how to use that collected data to create and construct interventions. These were mostly centered around the ideas of phonemic awareness, deeding, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. We then learned how to implement the intervention we created or would create. Following, we learned how to monitor the interventions through progress monitoring.

ED 800: Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Dr. Steven Weiland
This course is the first course I took under the MSU online MAED program. Within this course we learned about historical, biographical, and ethnographic concepts of educational inquiry. It provided me with an opportunity to think and exchange ideas about my educational beliefs, while relating them to the many forms of inquiry. Throughout this course we reflected on how we can apply education inquiry into our own teaching practices, which can be found all around us.

CEP 816: Technology, Teaching and Learning Across the Curriculum
Dr. Rand Spiro
This course focused on how to bring together my current understanding of technology and using it across my current curriculum. Through articles, group discussions and post, I learned the benefits of technology in a K-12 educational settings. It became clear that their is a connection between what current technological theories suggest and what older threes suggest. Issues that arise with using technology, especially for the wrong reasons was another course topic.

CEP 841: Classroom & Behavior Management in the Inclusive Classroom
Dr. Troy Mariage
This course provided me with classroom management skills beneficial specifically for students with mild/moderate behavioral challenges. I gained knowledge of behavioral technologies which support a diverse group of students that includes students with special needs. I explored many different prevention techniques and behavioral strategies for students with challenging behaviors. As part of the course we studied a series of behavioral assessments. We studied various behaviors, which allow us to identify crucial factors that motivate and prompt the behavior of students. Throughout this course we also applied our understanding of behaviors to develop and implement behavioral, social, and academic interventions.

CEP 818: Creativity in Teaching and Learning
Dr. Punya Mishra
This course challenged my me to to define the word creative and creatively. Throughout this course we were constantly asked and reflecting on a few questions; What does it mean to be creative? Is creativity born or can it be developed/ learned/ nurtured? Does creativity reside in the individual or in the social (or organizational) context within which we live? What does the creative process look like? What is the relationship among creativity, play and humor? With these questions in mind we brainstormed ways to become more creative in our personal teaching practice. We explored ways technology can be integrated into every subject matter. I specially focused on nonfiction reading and writing for this course. My work from this course can be found on the showcase page.

CEP 817: Learning Technology through Design
Dr. Punya Mishra
Within this course I focused on various modules all investigating the process of design and its relation to education technology. Throughout the course we adapted what we were learning to an online space. We constantly reflected on the design process of creating an online space and the elements/aspects of design. Some of the other topics covered throughout the course include; learning by design, human computer interaction, art and aesthetics of design, iterative design, design evaluation, and collaboration in design.

CEP 832: Educating Students with Challenging Behaviors
Dr. Cynthia Okolo
This course allowed me to dig deeper into positive classroom management strategies, especially those that are useful with "tough to teach" students. We examined various types of behavioral problems that are especially challenging in the classroom: aggressiveness, oppositional behavior, hyperactivity, and social withdrawal, among others. For each type of problem we explore research-based practices that have proven successful in the classroom, also practices of real teachers, and applied them to case study situations. We worked as groups to develop behavior plans and interventions for each situation. Throughout the entire course I conducted a case study on a student in my classroom. I used the course knowledge to guide my management techniques with this student. My write up on this project can be found on the showcase page.

CEP 870: Capstone Seminar
Dr. Matthew Koehler
This course allowed me to create this web-based portfolio, which presents my learning in the Masters of Arts Education program at Michigan State University. The information displayed represents the work and thinking I have done throughout my entire program at MSU. This course allowed me to collaborate with other educators and designers. We used various technological communication methods to guide one another to create individual, meaningful portfolios.
